So there are actually very few benefits to working for The Man ™. The hours suck, the pay is ok, and the stress is high.
However, there are federal holidays to enjoy and one is coming up Monday.
Yes, Monday is the celebration for Columbus Day. A holiday to celebrate an Italian who crashed into Hispaniola, thought he was in India, and brought back tobacco and syphilis to Europe. (Although all things considered, smallpox alone probably evened the score.) And the best part? He wasn’t even the first person to come here, even if we don’t count the pre-historic migrations from Asia.
One Italian lands here looking for something else and another gets his name on two continents because the Germans can’t read.
Too bad it’s been all downhill for Italy since then.
