Damn Kids, With Their Hair and Their Shoes
by Kevin in Musings and Meanderings
Morgan and I like to cruise Best Buy occasionally as we fall further and further from grace towards becoming complete materialists. Invariably, we will cross either the Rock Band displays, or the Guitar Hero III setup and, provided no one else is camped in front of them, Morgan will pick up the guitar, or the drum sticks and give a little impromptu show. If you’ve known her as long as I have, then you’re already impressed. She plays well. Better than I do, but neither of us are at the levels seen when a thirteen year old kid is working his way through Rush’s YYZ on Hard or Expert.
I’ve never actually seen those kids in person, just from YouTube clips. However, over at Gamers with Jobs, Julian Murdoch tells the story of seeing a teenage kid beat Dragonforce’s “Through the Fire and the Flames” on Expert. The song was annoying on Easy and too difficult on Medium when I played it. Without even seeing it, I know Expert is some level of stupidly insane. It’s a good story. Go read it.

Cowbell Hero
by Kevin in Musings and Meanderings
There aren’t a lot of words, really. I suspect you’ve at least heard of Guitar Hero. If not, then this all falls apart.
I won’t even mention what happens if you don’t get the cowbell reference. You’ve been living under a rock for a decade.
