From Azeroth to Your Desk
Even if you’ve never played World of Warcraft, you’ve heard of it. They have over nine million subscribers. Mr. T, William Shatner and Mini Me are starring in commercials for the game. It’s even fashionable among movie and music stars to announce a little time spent roaming Azeroth in an alternate guise. It’s as close to mainstream as a PC game has ever gotten.
WoW has gotten so big, it’s even created peripheral cottage industries that use content from the game. People spend months now creating movies filmed entirely within the confines of the game. They make fake commercials. They make music videos. And now, someone has figured out how to make statues of your character.
FigurePrints takes the information gleaned from Blizzard’s Armory application, creates a 3-D snapshot of the character, allows you to customize the gear and pose, and then sculpts a miniature figurine. From the screen to your desk, or shelf, or mantle. It’s an incredible melding of technology to take, what is really just a series of 1s and 0s, and make a physical representation of your character.
I stopped playing WoW a good bit ago, but I have to admit – it wouldn’t be so bad to have Macau sitting on my desk.
